Ferry Terminal Internasional Sekupang, Pelabuhan Terdekat ke Singapura via Batam

Pulau Batam dikenal dengan aksesnya yang paling dekat dengan Singapura. Ada tiga pelabuhan utama di Batam yang melayani penyeberangan ke negara tetangga itu, Batam Center, Harbor Bay, dan Sekupang.

Namun yang memiliki akses terdekat dengan Singapura adalah Pelabuhan Sekupang. Hanya saja, pelabuhan yang melayani 28 perjalanan tiap harinya itu tak terlalu ramai.

"Kalau disini memang tidak terlalu ramai. Yang paling ramai itu di Batam Center," ujar Kasi Unit Tempat Pemeriksaan Imigrasi (TPI) Muhammad Ridwan di Pelabuhan Sekupang saat menemani berkeliling pelabuhan, Jumat (15/11/2013).

Ridwan mengatakan, jika menuju ke Singapura dari Sekupang hanya membutuhkan waktu sekitar 30 menit. Sementara, jika dari Pelabuhan Batam Center sekitar 45 menit.

"Jam operasi dari pukul 05.30 WIB sampai 22.00 WIB, setiap jam sekali ada," kata Ridwan.

Di Pelabuhan Sekupang sendiri, terdapat 4 operator kapal ferry yaitu Batam Fast, Pacific, Sindo, dan Wave Master. Rata-rata jumlah penumpang yang wara-wiri sekitar 800-1000 orang.

"Kalau weekend lebih ramai. Orang Singapura kesini buat liburan, belanja, pijat, atau main golf. Disini lebih murah soalnya," kata Ridwan.

Untuk tarif tiket penyeberangan sendiri dipatok seharga 30 dollar Singapura untuk perjalanan pulang-pergi. Sementara untuk sekali jalan sekitar 18 dollar Singapura. Harga itu berlaku untuk warga negara Indonesia.

"Itu kena tax 7 dollar. Kalau tiket untuk WNA sekitar 35-38 dollar Singapura," tutup Ridwan.

Visitor from Singapore, Malaysia dominate Batam tourism market^^

The number of tourists visiting Batam has increased this year, particularly from Malaysia and Singapore, according to data.

      The short distance between Batam and the two countries and a wide vary of           transportation choices are among the reasons for the increase.

According to data from the Batam city administration’s tourism department, the number of foreign tourists visiting Batam in 2012 reached 1.22 million people, up from 1.16 million the previous year. The tourists came mainly from China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the Philippines.

The Riau Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the number of Singaporean tourists visiting Batam in February reached 69,378 people and 22,850 Malaysians.

“The high number of Malaysian and Singaporean tourists visiting Batam is understandable, given that Batam borders the two neighboring countries,” said the Batam administration’s head of tourism, Yusfa Hendri, on Tuesday.

He said many tourists from Malaysia and Singapore visited Batam on weekends. “They stay here for a relatively short period; three days at the most,” said Yusfa.

Tourists from Malaysia and Singapore are interested in local cuisine, particularly fresh sea food, shopping for basic commodities and for wellness treatments, he said.

Yusfa said that his administration was optimistic that the 1.25 million foreign tourists targeted to visit Batam in 2013 was achievable. Moreover, the number of tourists from China and Korea also has also been increasing over the past few months.
